The East Somerville Community School has a new principal, and he’s chosen a motto for the year: Believe. It’s pasted throughout the school on walls and windows, and in each classroom. During the 2019-2020 school year Connection Lab designed an 8-foot-wide mosaic based on the motto, with the word “Believe” translated into the 6 languages other than English that are spoken most commonly in Somerville. The center of the design was tiled by students in the Redirect office, the translated words were tiled by parents (with some help from their children), and the border was tiled by almost 800 students during art class. It’s now hung in a central hallway for everyone to enjoy.
