The ArtBeat festival is a mainstay of the art scene in Somerville, MA, but COVID changed the festival’s plans and moved everything to be online or socially distanced. Through the Beautiful Stuff Project, Connection Lab created a public art installation called Resilience for the Art Beat festival. A wave of upcycled CDs, the fence became a testament to all of the creative ways that people have stayed strong through the pandemic. We set up temporary art stations outdoors throughout Somerville during June and July, where people could stop and decorate a CD in response to the question “what has helped you get through the last few months?”. The results were funny, moving, and creative.
