To celebrate mental health awareness month, the Newton Health Department organized an evening event at the local library. The centerpiece activity was a mosaic project facilitated by Connection Lab. Together, community members of all ages created a mosaic of a tree and its roots, symbolizing the ways that support and nourishment from people around us can contribute to a healthy, thriving and vibrant community. The mosaic was made from glass tiles, ceramic shards, stained glass and pressed glass. Some participants made special tiles by writing a word on colored paper and gluing it under clear glass. As the glue dried the word showed through and became and integral part of the mosaic.
The completed mosaic is hanging at Newton City Hall for the whole city to enjoy.
