To create one of the first data murals ever, Connection Lab partnered with the Somerville Food Security Coalition. Conenction Lab led the coalition’s members in looking at qualitative and quantitative data that they had collected about food security in the city, finding stories in the data, choosing a story that they wanted to tell publicly, and designing and painting a mural to tell that storoy. The painting process took only 24 hours, starting one afternoon and finishing the next. The mural was painted on fabric to allow it to be rolled up and carried to outdoor events and to be shown in different organzations. Although tit doesn’t incrorpotate the last few years’ data, the mural is still used regularly at events and has become a tool for explaining the coalition’s work and teaching people about local resources.
