On Martin Luther King Jr Day Connection Lab led the creation of a collaborative mosaic that says “DREAM”. The piece was tiled by community members following a public event with speeches, films and performances. The mosaic references both the DREAM Act (short for Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act), a bill in Congress that would have granted legal status to certain undocumented immigrants who were brought to the United States as children and went to school here, and Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. In a district with a large number of immigrant families, many of whom are undocumented, the DREAM Act is particularly relevant. The mosaic is now installed at the Somerville Public Schools district administrative offices.
