With the help of lots of small hands we’ve completed four mosaic panels to mount on the raised garden beds at the Kennedy School. The kids’ drawings have come to life in colorful glass and we’re just about ready to grout them. The mosaics that the students in grades K-5 glued onto mesh have been cemented onto outdoor cement board and on Tuesday we’ll add grout to fill in all of the spaces between the tiles.
At the same time we’re arranging the installation by assuring permissions and ordering the right materials to build frames that will stand up to the elements and not require any maintenance.
As some of you know, this project is supported in part by a grant from the Somerville Arts Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council. And our amazing tiles were donated by Artaic who donated them to the Beautiful Stuff Project, who donated them to us! We’re looking forward to finishing the project and sharing the final results with the whole after school, the wider community and all of the generous organizations that have contributed.
