I am working with a very special class at the East Somerville Community School. With materials from the Beautiful Stuff Project I’m helping the class to make projects that they can hang from the beams of their classroom’s ceiling.
There isn’t a lotto time to do art during this class’ day, and it gives the kids important opportunities to use their minds and their hands in new ways.
Last week we made contact paper snowflakes and original rubber stamps.
The leftover fabric was not wasted. After one student made himself a shirt out of a striped piece of cloth everyone else clamoured for clothes too. We cut the remaining facbric into strips and almost everyone got to wear a colorful scarf home.
It was a blast, and I’m looking forward to making a collaborative mobile with them this week.
